In their poetry book, Dead Dad Jokes, the author tactfully addresses their grief of losing their father & brings it to light for the readers. They are unashamed to talk about their struggles and coping mechanisms. With their blatant and unflinching ability to grip the readers with a peculiar yet arresting sense of honesty, Ollie delivers a spectacular & one-of-a-kind book.
The cover of the book is minimalist yet speaks oceans. Poetry is a genre which people seldom appreciate. However, this book is worth every single word of appreciation. The writing style of the author was lucid & harsh. Something which is necessary whilst talking about grief. Their poems had a sense of familiarity, since we have all experienced grief of losing our loved ones, at least once in our lives. Their words are highly moving and once the reader starts reading, it would be very difficult to put down the book.
There were times when I felt so emotional that I just HAD to stop for a moment before moving on to the next poem because my heart hurt. All their poems are built around the same theme – grief & yet they are so different from one another.
This book is not an easy read but is enjoyable nonetheless. I would definitely recommend this book to all the poetry lovers.
