Nothing is the Same is a Historical fiction book penned by Bernice Sibberas. It is an intricately woven story set in medieval Australia. I was ecstatic to dive into this book since it was one of the few novels set outside the US or UK. I am delighted to say that this book did not disappoint.

From the very first line, the author has managed to cast upon her readers. It is no secret anymore that Bernice is a gifted writer. Her world-building is commendable, and her story-telling skills are par comparison. I was sucked into the book like a planet into the black hole. Employing lucid and vivid language, Bernice excelled in showing her readers what’s happening rather than just telling them about it.

The pace was perfect – not too slow and not too fast. The storyline was intriguing, and the dialogues were consistent with the era in which the book is set which, definitely gives this book brownie points from my side.

The characters were carefully fleshed out and held close resemblance to the people of the era. Some of the misogynistic views might be a bit deterring for people. But, it is crucial to understand that this is how it used to be in the past. We’ve come a long way since then. I would like to applaud the author for being audacious enough to incorporate them in her book anyway.

The Romance aspect of the book was phenomenal too. I wasn’t so sure if I’d able able to digest the insta-love trope but I ended up actually liking it.

In a nutshell, Nothing Lasts for Ever is a Historical Fiction read that will keep you bouncing at the edge of your seats. If you are a sucker for Romance in historical settings, this is one book you will regret passing out on.
