SYNOPSIS – FROM LUKOV WITH LOVE
If someone were to ask Jasmine Santos to describe the last few years of her life with a single word, it would definitely be a four-letter one.
After seventeen years—and countless broken bones and broken promises—she knows her window to compete in figure skating is coming to a close.
But when the offer of a lifetime comes in from an arrogant idiot she’s spent the last decade dreaming about pushing in the way of a moving bus, Jasmine might have to reconsider everything.
Including Ivan Lukov.
“Because I'm okay with you having ten other people be your favorite. But you're always going to be my favorite person.”
MARIANA ZAPATA (FROM LUKOV WITH LOVE)
MY BOOK REVIEW – ★★★★★
From Lukov With Love, by Mariana Zapata, is an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, slow-burn contemporary romance fiction that has taken social media by storm. It focuses on two talented figure skaters – Ivan Lukov and Jasmine Santos. After years of relentless bickering, they finally join forces and become skating partners.
I can’t believe it took me this long to pick up this literary masterpiece. Lately, I haven’t been reading many 5-star books, which, if I am being honest, has irked me quite a bit. Then, lo and behold, I pick up From Lukov With Love. Initially, I was slightly deterred by the length of this book. In my experience, hefty books usually foster unnecessary information dumps that contribute scarcely to the plot. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I read this book in hours!
Sports Romances are notorious for incorporating one of the three mainstream games in their storylines – basketball, American Football, hockey (I am looking at you, Elle Kennedy), or, at most, soccer.
The storyline was fascinating, and the intricate details incorporated in the writing added another feather to the cap. A traditional slow-burn starts with the main characters despising each other and slowly reaches a point where they begin to tolerate each other’s presence. They then move on to their ultimate destination – love. All in all, this was a believable romance that I can see going down in actuality.
Despite being a little too slow, objectively speaking, the plot hit the nail right on the head. There wasn’t even a single instance where it fell bland or where something worthwhile wasn’t going down. In my humble opinion, the character arc in this novel was the best part of this book. Even better than the romance. Jasmine started off as a slightly annoying character; by the time I turned the book’s last page, she was a character I adored. In the same way, the portrayal of Ivan was pleasantly surprising. He wasn’t as despicable as I expected him to be.
The diction was compelling and encapsulating. Despite this being the first book I’ve read by Mariana Zapata, I can see myself picking up more of her work in the future. I am thoroughly impressed and recommend this book. Everyone who is a sucker for cute romance that will leave a tingly feeling in your heart long after you’ve turned the last page, this book is you guys.
